Hello! I am Elia Griffin, a journalist from the Washington D.C. area, currently living in Brooklyn, NY. I am pursuing a BA in Journalism + Design at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School.

I double minor in in Interdisciplinary Science and Latinx Studies. My work and studies are focused on climate, the environment, and energy and sustainability. I have been learning Spanish for the past seven years and I am now concentrating on Latinx literature and history.

One thing to know about me: I am passionate about all things climate and the environment. My goal as a budding climate journalist is for my work to effectively educate and inform the public, compel readers to take the steps needed to demand institutional and political action on the climate crisis, and to tell authentic stories about the people who have been hit hardest by climate change.
People power is imperative to combat the climate crisis.

Another thing about me: I am Colombian! 🇨🇴 I was adopted from Medellín, Colombia as a baby. To be an adoptee means to look at the world as if I was given a second chance. It also means that identity has always been a difficult thing to navigate. But as I grow older I realize that it does not matter who raised you or where you are from or what people tell you who you are. What makes an identity is you.

Making collages is one thing that has helped me navigate my identity as an adoptee growing up in a white-Jewish-Catholic-Italian household. It is one of my favorite hobbies because it is like free therapy! All you need are scissors, glue, some magazines and an open heart.

Topics like adoption and foster care are very close to my heart. In the future, I want to write more about the experiences of adoptees and write news stories about adoption and foster care. One day I want to write a book about my own adoption journey.
